BIble Verse Sunday #10

Today's verse is Deuteronomy 8:17-18, as taken from esvbible.org:

17 Beware lest you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’ 18 You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

The ESV Study Bible has this to say on the verse:

"Deut. 8:17 say in your heart. See 7:17 and note on 7:17–18. This verse puts into words the pride alluded to in 8:14 and is the climax of vv. 12–17.

Deut. 8:18 Instead of forgetfulness (vv. 11, 14), Israel is to remember. See v. 2 and note on vv. 2–3; 5:15 and note. it is he who gives you power. This is an explicit corrective to the proud words in 8:17. Israel’s future wealth will be evidence of God’s faithfulness to keep covenant. as it is this day. See 2:30 and note."

At church today, the Pastor spoke about how giving and living is like worship, and how we live through our giving. In the High School service, the youth pastor gave a sermon on the basic "good news" message, covering where Paul spoke about the good news in  Pisidian Antioch. He also showed a video called G.O.S.P.E.L., by an artist called Propaganda. It was a good video, and I intend to showcase it on the blog sometime, but I felt that the artist's choice of name was laughably ill-conceived.

I had my friend Matt over today. We played a game of Star Wars Miniatures, which will also be covered in a future post. I won, but it was a good game. We were getting started on another when his dad came to pick him up, but oh well.
