Today, on this sixtieth episode of Bible Verse Sunday, we shall examine Romans 7:24. This verse is of particular interested to me as it is a.) Part of the material we are studying in Bible Quiz Team this year, b.) Part of the section that the youth pastor in the High School service taught from today, and c.) Probably going to be covered in my church's upcoming study in the book of Romans. So, without further ado, Romans 7:24:
"Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?"
The ESV Study Bible has this to say about the verse:
"Who will deliver me? The living presence of Jesus Christ is the answer to the problem of sin in one's life."
Today's sermon was the final installment in our series in the book of Matthew. Today, the pastor talked about how God created us for excellence, that he deserves our best, that he expects our work to be an act of worship, and that he requires our full potential. In the High School service, the youth pastor continued in his aforementioned series in the book of Romans, covering how we are trapped by the flesh, which, though it is dead, maintains a stranglehold on our thoughts and actions. Fortunately, we are saved from it by Christ, who will remove it entirely when he returns.
In other news, last night I went to a swing dance social sponsored by my co-op. It was a lot of fun and I was glad to have learned some basic dancing skills. We had games, dancing (mine for the first time), music, and a lot of junk food.
Tonight, my taekwondo instructor and very dear friend Mr. Driver invited me over to his residence to watch Enter the Dragon with him and to have dinner. I had gotten the movie for him for Christmas, and he wanted to watch it together. We made dinner and popcorn, and we had a good time enjoying a classic martial arts film. This was, indeed, a great weekend.
Reading this put a smile on my face.
