This week's verse is Hebrews 13:5:
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
The ESV Study Bible has this to say about the verse:
"The antidote to love of money is contentment, which comes fromm trusting in God's promised provision (see Deut. 31:6, 8: also Josh. 1:5). The citation from Ps. 118:6 applies the idea of trusting in God for more than just financial needs (esp. in light of persecution, Heb. 13:3)."
Today in church, the pastor continued in the second-to-last installment of the our study in Isaiah 9:6, going over the terms used to identify Jesus in this verse. This week, we studied the title "Everlasting Father." This title, the pastor said, is especially important as it links Jesus to his and Jehovah's statuses as eternal, and therefore being one and the same. In the High School service, we had a sort of Christmas party where we ate food at a sort of junk food potluck (my sister baked and brought oatmeal-craisin cookies). This was followed by the singing of Christmas carols, and then a short address by Pastor Wes on the basics of the Christmas story. This address included a reading of Luke 2:1-20.
